Rural sites; over coming difficulties with ground screws

We worked with the client to create the foundations for this unique project. A 16 sided timber building destined to be a one of a kind healing sanctuary in rural Hampshire. It took 31 screws and a fair amount of maths!

The problem:

  • Rural site and difficult access: The site was located in a field with limited access for vehicles and heavy machinery.

  • Natural habitat: The location is a beautiful, rural area surrounded by hedgerows and natural habitat.

  • Unique design: The client had designed a bespoke, 16 sided timber building as a unique healing sanctuary offering one to one and group sessions.

The intricate timber foundation.

The solution:

Design: We designed and built an intricate 16 sided timber frame, joined to 31 x 1.2m steel screws.

No heavy machinery: This screw install used one drill, plus testing machinery and was operated by a single person. There was no need for heavy vehicle or multiple teams.

Conserving the natural habitat: Once they are set up each screw took a few minutes to install, but there was no messy excavations, or subsequent need for removal and no concrete poured. Leaving the surrounding natural habitat relatively undisturbed.

The screw formation before piling began.
